4.4 E-mail addressesAll users (except limited ones) may set up more than one email addresses in the system to which he can send scheduled reports and in case of administrators information on threshold violations. In case of alarms the system offers several options to minimize the number of email messages sent out. The email message can be delayed, so if the alarm is cleared in the meantime then the system doesn’t even send out the email. The other option is the email rate limit setting: if the system sent out or wants to send out X messages during Y minutes then it sends an email notifying the user that it will not send any new email in the next Z minutes. When the given time has passed, it sends out a new email which contains the number of currently violating alarms per alarm level, counting only those which have the given email set for them. The email can be configured so that the system doesn’t send out notifications based on the level of the violation. Last but not least an email can be a so called bulk threshold email, in which case the system sends out just one email containing the violated thresholds and not several separate emails per threshold violation. It is important to note that if an alarm is cleared because the beginning of an exclusion window or a maintenance window then PVSR never sends out a notification. The configuration can be done under the Settings=>Customization=>E-mail addresses menu where these parameters must be entered · Name: the name of the email address. When viewing the emails the system shows the name as “user name – email name” format, because the user must use them in this format when using the bulk threshold modification page · For all administrators: if checked then the email can be used by the other administrators as well · E-mail: The e-mail address where the e-mails should be sent. · PerformanceVisor WEB address: The WEB URL for the application from the standpoint of the user who will receive emails via this email address. If the parameter is set and PVSR sends out an HTML email (alarm or report on equipment measurements) then it will also place a link into the email which can be used to open the same page as the email content in PVSR (the user will have to specify a user name and password when opening the page!) · Delay notification: if set then PVSR only sends an email about an alarm condition if it has been raised for more than the given minutes · Rate limit test interval: the moving rate limit time interval can be set here · Rate limit maximum number of messages: the maximum number of messages the system allowed to send in the specified rate limit time · No email until: the system will not send out email notifications until the given time if the rate limit is activated (i.e. the maximum number of messages was sent in the given time) · Bulk threshold e-mail sending: In case of threshold violations it is possible to send all threshold violations that have occurred together in a single e-mail instead of sending them separately. · Do not send … alarm emails: the user here can disable the notifications for the different threshold levels · Threshold custom e-mail: when specified then PVSR takes the prefix and postfix texts from the custom email (nothing else) and uses them in the outgoing bulk threshold email · Bulk threshold e-mail subject: It can only be set if the previous parameter is set as well and it specifies the subject of the e-mail sent by PVSR. The subject can contain besides the standard text “PerformanceVisor Alarms” the number of alarms with the highest level or the number of alarms per level which are present in the e-mail or for all alarm levels, regardless whether such alarm can be found in the e-mail or not. The user can also choose to shorten the level names:
If an e-mail address is deleted from the list then naturally no report or threshold violation information is sent to that address. Consequently, if all e-mail addresses are deleted for a particular scheduled report then the report won’t be generated anymore but it is not deleted from the system. The user can also test the email by clicking on the [test] link, in which case PVSR sends out a test email to the specified email address. |
