6.5.4 Bulk deletion

We can bulk delete sites, equipments, measurements, virtual sites, virtual equipments, charts and thresholds. The feature can be accessed from the Site and equipment configuration menu => Site and equipment configuration submenu and from the Site and equipment configuration menu => Bulk deletion submenu. In the later case we can delete every objects, while in the first case we can delete only those objects which are anywhere below the selected site. In the first case we have to select the Bulk deletion item from the Operation scroll down list on top of the table showing the site elements. Also in the first case - similar to the other Operation items - the page shows the currently selected site within the site hierarchy.

The bulk deletion consits of three steps:

ˇ       Searching for the objects we want to delete and setting some deletion options

ˇ       Confirmation page which shows the objects which will be deleted

ˇ       The result of the deletion

Each configuration step can be accessed via the links on the top of the page. The application enforces the dependencies between the different steps and it ensures that the user cannot switch to a step unless all of its prerequisites are meet. There are different ways to navigate between the first two steps: their names serve as links, but the Prev and Next links can also be used. However the third step cannot be accessed via this way, the Delete button has to be used intead.

Figure 65. Bulk deletion - Search

The first step is the Search where we search for the objects we want to delete and where we can also choose between different deletion options. The search part of the page is similar to the page shown for the Search menu item and it has the same filtering parameters, however in this case we can only search for those object types which were mentioned above.

The different options control the way the deletion is spreading within the hierarchy:

ˇ       Delete non-empty sites: if it is not selected then PVSR will not delete non-empty sites. If it is selected then PVSR will delete the site and everything below it

ˇ       Delete empty parent objects and Delete empty equipments: if both of them are selected and we delete a measurement, equipment or site, and its parent object has no other child object then the parent object will be deleted as well. For example: if we have only Site2 below Site1 and only Equipment1 below Site2 and we have just one measurement on that equipment and we delete the measurement when these two options are selected then the measurement, Equipment1, Site2 and Site1 will be deleted. If only Delete empty parent objects is selected then PVSR will not delete automatically an equipment if it becomes empty, only the sites. In the previous example this means that only the measurement would be deleted. However if we would delete Equipment1 then Site1 and Site2 would be deleted as well.

ˇ       Delete equipment related Jaga measurements: if there is a Jaga (availability) measurement which is shown for the equipment in the Measurement menu then it will be deleted as well

There are also deletion rules which cannot be configured or modified. These are the same rules which are applied when we delete the objects one-by-one, with the exception of the first rule:

ˇ       If we delete a site and the Delete non-empty sites option is selected then it deletes the virtual sites and equipments below it

ˇ       If we delete an equipment then its measurements are also deleted

ˇ       If we delete a measurement then its thresholds are also deleted

ˇ       If we delete a measurement then it is removed from every chart. If the chart becomes empty after this then it is also automatically deleted

ˇ       If we delete a virtual equipment then the measurements assigned to it will not be deleted

We have to click on the Delete button at the bottom of the confirmation page to delete the objects.

The page does not shows the measurements unless they are Jaga measurements or we have choosen measurements on the Search page.
