13.1.1 Common prerequisites and comments

The proper Oracle version has to be installed before installing PVSR. PVSR requires among others the Oracle SQL*Loader utility as well, unless it is installed in data-collector-only-mode on Linux. If the Oracle installation is a database server then the utility is installed by default. However in case of an Oracle client the module has to be selected manually during the Oracle installation. The utility does not exists as a separate installation option, in order to install it the “Oracle Database Utilities” option has to be selected (see the highlighted row):

In case of Oracle 10

In case of Oracle 11

If Oracle instant client is used then at least the basic and the sqlplus instant client components have to be installed. If PVSR is not configured as only a data collector then the tools component is required as well.

During the installation the application alters the UNDO tablespace in the Oracle database, maximizing its size in 10GB if its max size is greater then 30GB. The installer asks for confirmation before making the change. Although for most installations this is enough, for larger ones the value might need to be increased. The application creates its schema in a way that it disables the analysis for its PVSR_MON_RES… tables.
