6.2 Site and equipment configuration

The administration of the (basic and virtual) sites, (basic and virtual) equipments and measurements can be performed under the ‘Site and equipment’ menu item (Settings=> Site and equipment). In a limited way it is also possible to configure threshold settings (in case we want to set a threshold for measurements on a single equipment only, otherwise we have to use the Settings=> Threshold menu item), and charts (if we want to use measurements only from the same equipment in the hierarchy; in all other cases, the Settings=>Customisation=>Public Charts or Private Charts menu items should be used).

If the site and equipment configuration as well as the threshold and graph template configurations have been opened from this menu item, then the hierarchy and the operations fields are visible, see 3.6 Operations and location in the hierarchy.

There are two types of add-new-object modes in the system:

·       Simple mode: this is the default. In this case the user can choose to add a new site or add a new equipment

·       Complex mode: all objects can be created by selecting the kind of object from the scroll down menu in the table header under the basic or virtual site that we want to create or insert. Other operations are available in this mode as well: bulk deletion, bulk creation and bulk measurement discovery

The user can change between the two modes on-the-fly and he can also specify his default option on the Preferences page.

Sites and equipments (virtual or not) can be edited and deleted in two separate ways, with the equipment’s editing having additional options (see later):

·       Editing/deleting from the object’s parent object by clicking on the [edit] or [del] link in its row

·       By selecting the appropriate operation on the object’s configuration page

It is important to note that deleting an object these way is not always possible (for example deleting non-empty sites is not available this way, only using the “Bulk deletion” submenu). If deleting is not available then the [del] link and the operation is not shown.
