6.8 Report configuration

PVSR has to main report types: the pre-configured reports and the on-demand reports. While in the case of the pre-configured reports the application aggregates the measurements constantly, for the on-demand reports the data is calculated only when someone views the report. The the pre-configured reports have several advantages: it doesn’t take much time to calculate it, even for many objects and for a long time period, the application can generate and send these reports automatically via e-mail and if a user is viewing an equipment or a measurement under the Measurement menu then these reports can also appear there. The advantage of the on-demand reports is that anyone can create any type of aggregation for any subset of objects and for any time period. Since the application does the aggregation only when someone is viewing the report the report presentation takes much longer, but on the other hand it does not take up any space in the database and any time period can be chosen, while in case of a pre-configured report the oldest possible time is the date when the report variable was created. The administrator users can create pre-defined reports using different ways, one of them is the capability to create a pre-defined report based on an on-demand report. The configuration is much easier in this way, since the application guides the users through the on-demand report generation with the help of a wizard and the conversion into a pre-defined report requires only a couple of basic settings. This section deals with the configuration of the pre-configured reports, for the usage of on-demand reports see the “On-demand reports” section.

Reports can be created using different ways:

·       Section 6.8.4: On-demand reports can be converted into pre-defined reports

·       Section 6.8.2: The application contains several built-in pre-defined reports: these only need to be activated

·       Section 6.8.3: Reports can be exported from one PVSR and imported into another

·       Section 6.8.5: Creating a new report from scratch or using the definition of another pre-defined report

The report variables (section 6.8.1) determine how PVSR aggregates the measured values. In the first three cases PVSR can also create these variables, while in the last case the user has to create them manually before doing the actual report creation.

While only the administrators can create pre-defined reports, also normal users can configure PVSR to receive reports periodically via e-mail. The application can send two types of e-mails:

·       Section 6.8.6: it can send a pre-defined report view

·       Section 6.8.7: it can send an equipment as it appears under the Measurement menu
